The following steps only detail how to stop the Northstar™ RTDB and collection of data. Be aware that your system may also have other supporting modules that exist external to this.

• Open the Admin Tools interface via Start MenuFugro GEOSAdminTools.
• If required, enter the default Admin Tools password 'Fugro GEOS' in to the box at the bottom.

• Click the Stop button (as highlighted above) to stop the Northstar™ RTDB and collection of all data.

The following steps only detail how to start the Northstar™ RTDB and collection of data. Be aware that your system may also have other supporting modules that exist external to this.

If you are unsure, the simplest way to restart your system in its entirety would be to fully reboot the Northstar™ system.

• Open the Admin Tools interface via Start MenuFugro GEOSAdminTools.
• If required, enter the default Admin Tools password 'Fugro GEOS' in to the box at the bottom.

• Click the Start button (as highlighted above) to open the RTDB control dialog box.

• Click the Start button (as highlighted above) to open the password dialog box.

• Enter the password for your system and click OK.
• The password for your system is displayed in the top left of the Admin Tools interface.

• Depending on the complexity of the Northstar™ system it may take a while to display the RTDB control dialog box showing the RTDB Running status indicated.
• Once the system has completely restarted close the RTDB control dialog box.

The following describes how to extract data saved in the Northstar™ datalogger to a CSV file for exporting and importing in to other applications such as MS Excel.

• Open the Admin Tools interface via Start MenuFugro GEOSAdminTools.
• If required, enter the default Admin Tools password 'Fugro GEOS' in to the box at the bottom.

• Click the LogFile Reader (Advanced) button (as highlighted above) to open the Log File Extractor window.

• Click Browse to select the directory where the datalogger binary files are saved.
• The directory is commonly located at D:\<rigname>_DataLogger\yyyy

• Ensure the saved datapoint name folders are listed as shown above and click Open.

• The datapoints that you wish to extract can now be added from the list on theleft to the list on the right. It is advisable to extract both the .value and the corresponding .status records as pairs to allow for data QCing.

• Type in or use the Browse button to specify the filename where the extracted data will be stored. Be sure to specify the filename extension/type as required. The recommended extension is .txt
• Note that if the filename already exists then its contents will be over-written without any warning.

• Specify the date and time range of the data to be extracted. The date and time format must be specified exactly in the format as shown.
• It is advisable to only extract a maximum of one month of data at a time and then concatenate the resulting files after extraction if a longer dataset is required.

• Set the output format to CSV Format and make sure that the Add Header option is also checked.

• Once everything is set you can save this LogFileReader configuration with Save Settings so that the same extraction can be recalled easily at a later time. The LogFile Reader will not automatically remember the previous settings when it is opened again later.
• You can use Load Settings to retrive the previously saved configuration(s).
• When everything is set the data is extracted with the Extract Data button. Depending on the time period and range of datapoints this may take a minute or two to complete.

• When complete, the dialog box above will appear. Simply click OK to close.

• You can now browse to the location where your output file is and view the contents in your text editor of choice.
 
• If importing/opening the file using MS Excel, the header is tab delimited and the data is comma delimited. You will need to specify both Tab and Comma as delimiting characters when first prompted.
